Politically Incorrect With Bill Maher: The Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky Affair (1998)

Source:Heartbeat For Us- Politically Incorrect With Bill Maher.
Source:The New Democrat

Shocker! A 1998 political talk show covering the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair. Gee, I guess there was nothing else going in the world. Similar to 1995 with the O.J. Simpson trial. As far as David Brock, I guess he was a closeted left-wing Socialist, as well as a gay man. Pretending to be a far-rightist who wanted to put America in a time machine and take us back to 1955. Perhaps even 1915 before American women had the right to vote. Well, Brock was a closeted homosexual until 1998 when I guess someone on the Right outed him. And now he’s head of a far-left media group called Media Matters. That seems to be in the business of trying to put right-wing media out of business.

But there’s one thing I sort of feel sympathy for David Brock. Being a closeted gay man and Socialist, pretending to be a right-winger on the Right in America. Having to pretend you love women, cars, sports, American capitalism in front of a group of people who think that gays should either be deported, or put in prison. Of course, he could’ve always moved to Canada where he would’ve fit in perfectly. And perhaps not even have to listen to, or hear any right-wing media whatsoever. Wait! Canadians, watch, read and listen to American media all the time. Perhaps because their media is so boring and has so little to report. I mean Canada, a country physically the size of a continent, but with only thirty-five million people. Because there’s year round arctic winter in half of the country.

One more thing about the Bill Clinton White House intern blow job scandal. I’ll give credit to anyone who can tell the difference between the group in America that tried to eliminate one way or another Bill Clinton from the presidency, from the Far-Right in the Tea Party that has tried to do the same thing to Barack Obama 10-15 soon to be twenty-years later. Wait! I have it. The difference is that the people who tried to kick Barry out of office are about 15-20 years older than the people who tried to kick Wild Bill out of office. Same crew, but with just more gray hair and resources to work with in the areas of the internet and social media.

Jeff Walsh: Politically Incorrect With Bill Maher & Camille Paglia (1995)

Source:Jeff Walsh- Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher and Camille Paglia, in 1995.
Source:The New Democrat

"Back on his old show (and this was on Comedy Central, before the show even moved to ABC), Bill Maher had a two-part episode where he abandoned his usual roundtable discussion to have a one-on-one discussion with feminist icon Camille Paglia. Great stuff here."

From Jeff Walsh

I used to see Camille Paglia as the right-wing nut who put down feminism because Feminists wanted equal treatment for women. I use to put her in the same category as Ann Coulter and saw Camille as Ann’s roommate at the nut house. But thank God for education, because without that I wouldn’t of learned more about her and learn that it is not feminism, equal rights, equal treatment that she was putting down. She was putting down militant feminism and political correctness. Bill Maher had the best line in this video that he called his show Politically Incorrect, because he wanted to give liberalism a good name. That is sort of what Camille Paglia is about as well.

Maher and Paglia are two of the most anti-politically correct people you’ll ever meet. They aren’t fans of political correctness from either the Left or Right and most of it probably does come from Left. Political correctness are about as illiberal and anti-liberal as anything can get. Because it violates the most important aspect of liberalism and personal freedom. Which is the right to speech and the ability for people to express themselves and speak openly. Because someone in the political correctness, the Far-Left really will be offended by it: “Making jokes about Caucasian men and right-wing women is okay, but everyone else is unacceptable.” For political correctness supporters.

And what Camille Paglia and perhaps Bill Maher are saying is that the problem with feminism is not feminism. But militant feminism, this idea that women shouldn’t be treated equally, but better. And their other issue has to do with political correctness. That again people should feel free to express themselves especially if they are correct, even if that means it might offend someone. Like racial or ethnic minorities, women of all ethnicities and races. Or the political correctness Left, that people should be able to be themselves and express themselves, but then they also make themselves open to criticism as well.

Real Time With Bill Maher: U.S. Representative Ron Paul (2008)

Source:Celebrity Universe-Bill Maher & U.S. Representative Ron Paul R, Texas.
Source:The New Democrat

Based on this interview and the fact they were talking about Rudy Giuliani the way they did, I would have to think this show was done in 2007-08, when Representative Paul ran for president the second time. And I mention that because Bill Maher I believe was still calling himself a Libertarian back then. And I think he even called Ron Paul his political hero. How four years or less can really change your political philosophy, or at the very least how someone displays what is supposed to be their politics.

Because Maher is still pretty liberal when it comes to free speech and defending the right to speak hate and say really insulting things and is still anti-political correctness. And some other key social issues involving civil liberties and personal freedom. But he’s way over the left now on economic policy and even calling for caps on how much money Americans should be allowed to make. And that we need a European sized superstate to take care of everyone. And that government should be completely running things like health care, health insurance, education and I’m sure some key areas of the economy.

I’m not sure how someone can say that government should stay almost completely out of people’s affairs as long as we aren’t hurting people, which is where Bill Maher was 7-8 years ago, can then say that government doesn’t mind the business of the people enough. And that we have too much choice and individualism to manage our own economic affairs at least. Wait, I got it, I know how someone can do that because it has been done before. Just ask Arianna Huffington. Who made a very similar political transition just 10-15 years ago.

The Tonight Show With Jay Leno: Bill Maher (2012)

Source:Celebrity Universe- Real Time With Bill Maher, on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, in 2012.

“Bill Maher on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno – Must watch this!”

From Celebrity Universe

Going back three years here so I have to dig deep into my memory bank and see what is still there. Oh wait 2012 was an election I lived through and was somewhat active in it as a voter and blogger. So I guess this shouldn’t be so difficult.

But the fact that someone like Rick Santorum could actually challenge someone like Mitt Romney tells you have screwed up the Republican Party is. If this was 1980 or 84 Rick Santorum would’ve been taken as seriously for president as Don Knotts or Rich Little or Artie Lang, some comedian like that. Because he would’ve been seen as a joke who probably needs to finish high school and grow up before he tries to do anything big.

If I’m Barack Obama I’m not hating my opposition, but getting down on my knees and thanking God everyday for the opposition that I do have. And writing them a check everyday for all the stupid and outrageous things they do and say.

Like with defunding of Homeland Security to use as an example. Because when the GOP’s support goes down, President Obama goes up and even if Americans regardless of race and party are not in love with the man as President. But he looks like God in comparison to especially the Tea Party wing of the GOP. Because Americans have basically said that: “Yeah, Barry is not great and makes mistakes. But look I’m glad he’s there instead of Ted Cruz or the House Tea Party.”

But with the Tea Party in power especially in the House of Representatives and with the economic recovery now feeling like it is real with solid economic and job growth and with the falling deficit and with President Obama having the country on his side against ISIS, he looks pretty good.

But without the Tea Party, perhaps President Obama is still Senator Obama sitting in on Senate committee hearings about agriculture spending or looking into the spending on school lunches and how much protein kids get from them. Which I’m sure is important, but a big step down from being President of the United States.

Real Time: Overtime: Bill Maher & Panel Talk About Politics

Source:The New Democrat

I've covered this before, but education literally stars at home. If you have parents who could care less about education, especially their own which might be why they didn't finish there's and even their kids, good luck to you as a student in school and the rest of life. If you don't have that person at the top telling you, "put down your iPhone or iPad, or turn off your computer unless you are using it for your homework, because it is time for you to do your homework". If parents don't stress education with their kids, why would their kids stress their own education. Especially with so much else in the world, most of it non-educational and considered "like totally awesome" to keep them busy.

Again politicians, you know we get who we voted for, well assuming that is the person who one and the people who counted the votes, well actually know how to count. But society as a whole gets the politicians they vote for and if they don't like those people, you know what, you can vote for someone else. That is called democracy, or run for office yourself, or recruit someone you like who you think would do a good job to run for office. The crooked politician's best friends are the dumb voters and the people who don't bother to vote. Because those people won't vote against them. The crooked politician's worst enemy, is the educated voter, because that person will vote for someone better

Real Time With Bill Maher: Talks About Ron Paul

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- talking about U.S. Representative Ron Paul (Libertarian, Texas)
Source:Real Life Journal

"This discussion was from episode 224. I apologize for the odd jitters in the video inbetween."

From Real Time With Bill Maher

There was a time when Bill Maher considered himself a Libertarian, at least in the sense that he didn't want big government in his personal and economic affairs. But not what's called an Anarcho-Libertarian today who is someone who essentially believes that there's essentially no place for government at all.

There are Anarcho-Libertarians that believe that law enforcement arresting suspects for possible crimes is a form a kidnap. Bill Maher never believed that and I don't think Representative Paul ever believed that.

But Bill Maher has always believed that government shouldn't try to tell people how they should live and should stay out of our business as long as what we're doing is our business and we're not hurting innocent people. Which is what I've always believed as a Liberal and what Classical Liberals believe, that government should regulate who people interact with each other , but not prohibit consensual behavior amongst adults.

This was Bill Maher up until 2009 or so. I believed except for private firearms that Maher has always believed that government should stay out of the private affairs of individuals.  But where's he changed has to do with economic policy where he's become a Democratic Socialist. And has just as much in common with Socialist U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont on economic policy, as he has in common with Representative Paul on social issues.

Maher has moved big government from our bedroom and personal lives and has stuck it into our wallets and bank accounts. He's said that government should be running schools, health care, health insurance, pensions and not have the private sector involved here.

Senator Sanders is a strong supporter of personal freedom even in the area of firearms and being a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Bill Maher would outlaw private ownership of firearms. But the rest of Maher's socially liberal stances are intact. Including free speech and being one of the strongest opponents of political correctness.

Terms like Socialist-Liberal and Libertarian-Socialist, sort of get thrown out there especially on social media. And are terms I've used myself, but what do they actually mean? I define Socialist-Liberal as someone who is socialist on economic policy and a big believer in the welfare state and that private enterprise needs to be heavily taxed and regulated and private income needs to be heavily taxed, but that private property and ownership should exist. But who is very liberal in the classical and real sense on social issues and a big believer in personal freedom.

A Socialist-Liberal is a collectivist on economic policy, but an individualist on personal issues and doesn't want big government interfering and prohibiting the private behavior of consenting adults. But back in 2007 Bill Maher was with Ron Paul on a lot of issues and wanted him to be the next President of the United States. I believe it was really the Great Recession and the Tea Party, that moved Maher way to the left on economic policy. While maintaining his very liberal views on social issues.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'Penn Jillette Explains His Libertarian Philosophy'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- Comedian Penn Jillette, on Real Time With Bill Maher back in 2011.
Source:Real Life Journal

"From Real Time With Bill Maher, October 14, 2011."

From Real Time With Bill Maher

If you listen to the Republican Party in recent years, like the Tea Party movement, you might think they are the individual freedom, limited government, anti-government political party. "Let free people live their own lives and be free, we shouldn't spend more than we take in. And should only spend more than we need to". Unless you focus on social issues like marijuana, abortion, gay marriage, practice a non-Christian religion or no religion at all, sleep with or pay a prostitute, sell yourself for sex, gamble your own money have an adulterous affair, because you aint getting enough at home, check out pornography etc.

And if you have a pretty good understanding of American politics you might think, actually they sound more like an authoritarian big government party to me. What happened to the limited government individual freedom of choice party. If you listen to the Democratic Party at least the activists in the party except for the Progressive Caucus and their allies you might think they are the individual freedom, limited government party. "Let free people live freely and live their own lives". If you hear their positions on gay marriage, immigration reform, civil rights, anti-war, drug reform, decriminalization of Marijuana.

All issues I tend to agree with the Left and Right on as a Liberal Democrat. Until you get to the Progressive Caucus and their positions on economic policy with all the tax cuts they want to repeal and new taxes they want to pass to double the size of the Federal Government. Take away our freedom of choice in health insurance if not health care all together, as well as all of the high taxes they would impose.

If the Progressive Caucus/Progressive Party bringing their version of what progressivism is building a Great Society through government and high taxes people "don't worry about living your own lives and making it on your own. We'll do that for you by taking your money away and giving you back what we feel you deserve" ever got into power and you may say to yourself, again if you follow American politics. "Wait a minute these Progressives aren't big believers in individual freedom, limited government, freedom of choice either".

At least not on economic policy, I don't like big government socialism either. And if you're a Liberal such as myself or a Libertarian, you take the positions that you get to keep most of the money you earn. Smoke a joint, be in love and marry someone of the same sex. Defend yourself, watch a porno flick, pay someone to have sex, sell yourself for sex. Without your big Uncle Sammy getting on you about it and grounding you and locking you in a room until you learn your lesson.

If you're a believer in individual freedom and freedom of choice, great we have a big club, but we are always looking for new members. Membership is free and you won't have to pay taxes on it, as long as the Progressive Caucus is not in power and you won't have Uncle Sammy breathing down your neck because he thinks you might be a terrorist because you support Individual Freedom, as long as long as Neoconservatives aren't in power either.

Uncle Sammy has already been banned from our club anyway, we just have one rule though and you have to pass a test first. You have to know what limited government and individual freedom are before you can join the club.

Real Time With Bill Maher: Trashes Paul Ryan & Libertarians

Source:Mediate- Real Time With Bill Maher. U.S. Representative Paul Ryan (Republican, Wisconsin) and U.S. Senator Rand Paul (Republican, Kentucky) also in the background.

"Bill Maher ended his show tonight by railing against a political movement he has aligned himself with in the past: libertarianism. He slammed the current wave of libertarians, among them Paul Ryan and Rand Paul, for having a “creepy obsession” with free markets, Ayn Rand, and government staying out of the way. He made it clear that he has not abandoned the libertarianism altogether, saying, “I didn’t go nuts, this movement did.”

From Mediate

"On this week's episode of "Real Time," Bill Maher used his final "New Rule" of the night to take on Libertarianism and the conservatives whose obsessions with Ayn Rand have "ruined" the political philosophy for him.

Once a supporter of Libertarianism and its views on government intervention, Maher explained why he thinks politicians such as Paul Ryan and Rand Paul are "intellectually stuck in their teen years" and have turned a once promising movement into a free market-obsessed, "nanny state"-fearing delusion.

Maher went on to defend his new views on Libertarianism by mocking the party's tendency to reject government services even when they are arguably very useful:

"To everyone who keeps trying to shame me about abandoning my Libertarian moorings, my message is this: I didn't go nuts, this movement did. Like when you see a stop light, your reaction should be 'Great, an easy way to ensure we don't all crash into each other,' not, 'How dare the government tell me when I can and cannot go!"

To be completely fair and accurate: (which unfortunately would make me unique) I don't think Bill Maher was ever a Libertarian. At least not in the classical sense, which is the only sense of libertarianism that I've ever respected or even understood and take seriously. At least not since he's been a national talk show host and he's had that job for the last 20 years.

Bill Maher voted for John Kerry for President in 2004, Barack Obama twice in 2008 and 2012. Whatever you think of John Kerry's of President Obama's politics, if they're Libertarians, then so is Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell and so is Bernie Sanders.

Bill Maher has always respected Ron Paul, but he also likes and respects Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders. Maher has always been a big government out of our bedrooms and personal lives all together Liberal (or Classical Liberal, if you prefer) who really doesn't want government running our economic lives either. But he's never supported eliminating the safety net or regulatory state and has always been a strong believer in the rule of law and somewhat hawkish on national security and foreign affairs. You know, like a real Liberal.

So I'm not surprised that Bill Maher would be going after the later political reality TV stars (or political escaped mental patients, if you prefer) people who call themselves Libertarians, when they actually don't seem to have any role for government at all.
