If we're looking at a Donald Trump-Bernie Sanders presidential election in 2016, you'll see Mike Bloomberg run for president (The Nanny Statist in-Chief Running For Commander-In-Chief) and the Gary Johnson campaign will just become that more important.

With the two big government candidates trying to out big government the other. The Donald, waking up little Latino kids in the middle of the night to kick them out of the country, because they're parents are here illegally, or brought them here illegally. As well as throwing out Freedom of Religion for Muslims and nationalizing Mosques. Feel The Bern, is really feeling Uncle Sam with his hands stuck in the pockets and taking from your wallets from you. Because Uncle Sam is addicted to other people's money and wants to tax every dollar possible from everyone. Because he knows best how to spend everyone's money better for them. According to every Socialist's favorite uncle and other American's worst nightmare in Uncle Sam. That Bernie Sanders thinks is simply not powerful enough and doesn't have enough of other people's money.

Assuming The Donald and The Bern are the top two major presidential candidates and I think they're still a long shot at this point, but for the fun of it lets say they are, Gary Johnson who is what I at least would describe as a Left-Libertarian, or Classical Liberal, running against a Democratic Socialist in Bernie and a reality TV actor in Donald Trump running as a Fascist Neoconservative, you have to have someone in there to say, no! Big government from the Far-Left, or Far-Right, is never the solution. And you need someone who will return power to the people from an economic and personal standpoint. And send power to the states as well. While Washington gets its fiscal house in order and gets the economy going again. That is what a Gary Johnson for president will represent. Especially running against a Fascist and Socialist.

Any chance I get to speak out and speak up for liberalism, I do that and that is exactly what this opportunity here is. Which is what I’m going to do in speaking out for liberal internationalism. David Housholder, a self-described liberal-libertarian, I guess interviewing Gary Johnson, back in 2012 about foreign affairs and national security. Governor Johnson, I at least believe he fits that same label. And I add liberal to that, because he doesn’t bash government. And say government has practically no role in serving people in need. But takes more of a federalist approach to those issues. And is not even against a strong national defense, or an isolationist. But believes America can’t defend the world by ourselves and that our partners need to contribute to that defense as well.

I haven’t seen many speeches and ideas from Gary Johnson when it comes to foreign policy and national security. But what I get from this interview back in 2012 on these issues is that we aren’t that much different, but I’m going to add a few things to it. Like with Europe and why isn’t Europe defending itself, instead of Americans taxpayers having to pay for that. Same thing with Saudi Arabia, which already has one of the largest and most developed militaries in the world. Japan and Korea, two of the largest economies in the world and two of the most developed economies in the world. And yet American taxpayers have to pay for the defense of both of those countries. That defense, should be the key word here. Protecting our own first. Working with our allies when issues like innocent people being murdered by their own government, or being invaded by a predatory country.

Not that I’m in favor of adopting the Scandinavian, or European social democratic economic model, but a big reason why their welfare states are so generous, is because they spend so little on national defense. Why is that? Because America at the expense of American taxpayers has Europe’s back when it comes to national defense. Same thing with Japan as well. We should be moving past NATO and instead Europe should develop their own European Defense Force as either part of the European Union, or some new federal European state. And be the main provider for their own defense. And that would mean they would need to spend 3-4% of their own resources to do this. Which would be an economic boom for them and allow for them to bring their unemployment way down. America, Canada, Turkey, the Slavic states not including Russia, could still be major partners with Europe.

I believe the main difference between the liberal internationalist model when it comes to foreign policy and national security and the neoconservative model and the libertarian-socialist model, comes to use of force.

Neoconservatives, base their foreign policy and national security policy almost if not squarely on the use of force. They believe you always have to sound tough and be able to back up your verbal toughness. That there’s nothing that America can’t do by itself when it comes to the military. That money is no object even debt and deficits when it comes to national security. You spend whatever it takes at all costs and then perhaps figure out how to pay for that spending down the road.

Then you move over to the libertarian-socialist model when it comes to foreign policy and national security. Combine former U.S. Representative’s Ron Paul with Dennis Kucinich, they were actually friends in Congress and worked with each other on these issues. You combine Libertarians with Social Democrats, or Socialists and you have a libertarian-socialist dovish isolationist foreign policy. Where they believe America could do well by cutting our national defense by 2/3 if not more. Libertarians, would use that money to get rid of the income tax. Socialists, would use that money to bring the Scandinavian welfare state to America. And we wouldn’t even work with our allies when there’s horrible human rights crisis’s around the world. Other than maybe supplying humanitarian aid to certain countries.

What the Liberal-Internationalist says and I’m one and so was Jack Kennedy, my political hero and a lot of other Liberal Democrats were and are, is that you have to be strong both at home and abroad. But that your partners have to play their part as well. They either pay you for their defense, or they invest their own resources to defend themselves. So yes, pull all of our Americans troops and bases out of Europe, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Korea. Or have them pay us for their defense. But you don’t act just because you’re strong enough to act. You act when your national security is at stake. When human rights are being abused like a lot of people being murdered. When you can play a positive difference. And you work with your allies when the situations come up. The differences between Smart Power, which is what liberal internationalism is. Versus shoot first and ask questions later. The neoconservative model. And No Power, the dovish isolationist model.

To try to translate was Governor Johnson is saying here: liberty is hard and you got to want it bad, because there will always be people in America that don't believe in it to the point that they'll try to take it away from you.

The fight to preserve individual liberty shall always go on. As long as there are statists on the Far-Right and Far-Left in America trying to take our freedom away. Freedom of choice I believe is the best way to look at freedom and I mean individual freedom. 

Should people have the right to make their own decisions over their own personal and economic affairs or not. And if they have the right, should they also be held personally responsible for their own decisions for good and bad or not. My answer and Gary Johnson’s answers to both questions is of course yes.

The freedom for people to control their own lives and then be held personally responsible for their own decisions over their own lives for good and bad. Not the freedom to hurt innocent people intentionally or otherwise, but the freedom to chart their own course in life. And to have their basic constitutional rights responsibly enforces and enforced equally for everyone. 

The job of government is to protect the innocent from predators who would hurt them. Not to try to run their lives for them and try to protect them from themselves either from a personal or economic standpoint.

That is what Gary Johnson argues and has argued his entire political career at least as long as I’ve heard of him going back to the late 1990s when he was Governor of New Mexico. The ability for free people to make free choices and then be held accountable for the decisions that they make. 

And perhaps where I would disagree with Governor Johnson is that government has a role to educate people on potential choices that they might make. As well as regulate these activities to protect the innocent from predators. Not to run these activities or try to prohibit them. But make sure that they are as safe and as responsible as possible.

I'm with Judge Jim Gray on this one. There are better ways to protect Americans that doesn't involve violating our constitutional rights,  which is what the Patriot Act, which is bipartisan by the way, which violates our 4th Amendment right, the Right to Privacy.

I'm not saying that I'm going to vote for Gary Johnson for President. And if I don't vote for him for President, it won't be so much because I don't like his campaign or what he stands for, but because he's not going to win and I'm not comfortable with a President Mitt Romney and a Tea Party Congress (House and Senate) which would be horrible for this country. Whatever you think of President Barack Obama and I have my own issues with him, especially as it relates to civil liberties, at least he stands up to the Tea Party, Populist-Right of the Republican Party. 

But if you look at all the presidential nominees in 2012, Gary Johnson is the only serious candidate when it comes to fiscal responsibility, especially as it to the national debt and deficit. He's the only one saying that borrowing and spending is bad for the economy and we can't keep doing that and need to stop that, as well as cut things and block grant programs that should be run by the states, especially as it relates to public assistance. And he's also a strong believer in civil liberties and personal freedom, as well as federalism, and it s strong opponent of the so-called War On Drugs. So there's a lot to like about Gary Johnson's presidential campaign.

I'm not saying that we should legalize all illegal narcotics in America. I'm saying we shouldn't put people in prison from using or simply possessing narcotics that are currently illegal. So that's where I disagree with the let's say the base of the Libertarian Party (assuming they even have a base) on narcotics policy in America. I'm all in favor of penalizing people who sell narcotics to minors and addicts, especially minors who are addicts. But that's not what we're talking about here. 

The War On Drugs has failed simply because it's a war against personal choice. We're not talking about murder, rape, battery, or any other serious crime that of course is a felony simply because there are victims involved. We're talking about here what people to do themselves, not others, and what they put into their own bodies. So forcing others to take what they don't want to take.

Why do we have two-million people in prison in America, the largest Prison Population in the world, at least on a per-capita basis, because we lock up people and send them to prison who don't represent a threat to society. 

We lock up people for what they do to themselves. We lock up people for what they do to themselves rather than what they do to others. In other words: the War on Drugs in America is at fault for our huge prison population. We are a liberal democracy and I'm a Liberal Democrat whois  proud to live in this liberal democracy. But of course we are not a perfect liberal democracy.

Gary Johnson who describes his politics as classical liberal who is running for President in the Republican Party, but you wouldn't know that, because he's only been allowed to appear at one presidential debate, understands this because he was Governor of New Mexico which of course borders Mexico. They actually have about a thousand-mile border with Mexico and have their own drug issues as a result of Mexico.

But Johnson did as Governor of Mexico was very smart and clever and forward-thinking. He pardoned marijuana users who weren't violent offenders, who didn't have a bad record in prison. That alone brings down your prison population and allows you to use that prison space for violent offenders instead. And New Mexico has an organized gang problem and this helped them with that.

Anyone who believes the American tax system is a sound efficient system, has never had to fill out their taxes in America and pay American taxes. We subsidize things that aren't productive, we subsidize things that are doing very well and don't need subsidies. We have so many tax loopholes that some people end up paying such a low effective tax rate, that they end up paying lower percentage of their income in taxes, than people making a lot less money than them.

So we end up having higher tax rates than we would have to have otherwise to fund our Federal Government. To make up the difference in lost tax revenue from the people who would otherwise be paying higher taxes, but can afford to hire a smart accountant to get them off in paying those higher taxes than they would otherwise have to pay. Because of all of the tax loopholes in our tax system. 

I'm not arguing for high taxes on anyone in America because I don't believe in that, but what I am arguing is for system that eliminates most if not all of our tax loopholes. And then in exchange we could bring down our overall tax rates on everyone.

We need a tax system where no one would be able to escape what they owe in taxes because we would eliminate most if not all of our tax loopholes. We need to develop a tax system like this in the short-term to help get our debt and deficit under control. But also in the long-term for our economy, to encourage more private investment in America that we need for economic and job growth and also so we have a tax system that most of the country if not all of it that has to deal with our tax system. Including the people who write our tax laws, which is Congress and the people who have to enforce them the Administration, can understand.

Before we reform our tax system we should reform our Federal Government to make it smaller and more efficient and where one program is no longer wasting 100B$ a year with your money. Once we do that, then our Federal budget would be much smaller and we could afford to eliminate most of these tax deductions. 

We would also be able to lower our tax rates, because our Federal Government wouldn't need as much tax revenue to fund themselves. And this starts in national defense by bringing our troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq, but also in developed nations like Europe, Saudi Arabia, Japan and Korea.

We also need to reform our social insurance programs, our entitlements programs, but also our anti-poverty programs to make them more cost-effective. And I would do this by reforming Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid so they are saved going forward, but also reforming our other social insurance programs like Unemployment Insurance, Welfare Insurance, Agriculture Insurance, Disaster Insurance, etc. 

Once the Federal Government is reformed, then we could move to permanent tax reform that's based on consumption rather than on income. Both private and public consumption pay for the private and public services, that you use by when you use them and then paying a tax on them. Paying taxes when you by a car or a home. (To use as examples) And then having a consumption tax that's based on how much you spend not how much you make. So grocery's would be taxed lower than luxury cars. (To use as an example) But also pay for the public services you use when you use them by paying a fee for when you use them.

Border Patrol could be financed by the people who leave and enter the country. People who travel would pay for the Transportation Security Administration with a fee on their ticket. (To use as examples) And the consumption tax wouldn't replace the payroll taxes, just the income tax. 

Tax Reform as well as government reform, is essential if we want to have a strong economy in the future, want to get our debt and deficit under control. And want to have a cost-effective and efficient Federal Government going forward in the future to make us more competitive with our foreign competitors.
