Talking Points Memo: U.S. Representative John Lewis- 'On Voting Rights Attacks: 'I've Seen This Before'

Source:Talking Points Memo- U.S. Representative John Lewis (Democrat, Georgia) talking about the importance of American democracy.

"John Lewis On Voting Rights Attacks: 'I've Seen This Before'"

Representative John Lewis (Democrat, Georgia) making the case for American democracy. The only thing I would add what Representative Lewis said here is this point: elections have consequences and when you don't vote, those consequences are even worst for your side of the isle, because you are essentially throwing in the towel and conceding the elections to the other party.

We saw this with the Democratic Party in 2002 when Democrats not only failed to win back the U.S. House, even with a Republican President George W. Bush, but lost seats in the House and lost the Senate as well.

And we saw that in 2010 with the Democratic Party not just losing the House, but losing 60 seats and making it close to impossible for Democrats, especially in an election where both sides could turn out in high numbers, for House Democrats to win back the House.

So if you don't want the other party to win (Republican or Democratic) the least that you can do is get yourself to the polls and vote for your party's candidates on election day.
